Lately, I’ve been creating small still life paintings of flowers in vases as an entry point to gallery painting. The subject matter is a bit conservative but historically significant since the beginning of ancient culture to present day. Eventually I want to increase the size of my work as I find that right balance between design, light, color, texture, message, etc. For now, working small helps me to catch mistakes or make corrections sooner as I continue to develop my work.
Lastly, painting spontaneously, similar to gestural or action painting, is a new approach for me since most of my current work is formalist, abstract, and hard-edge.
