Acceptance Paintings

Acylic on canvas | 2000 | 1' x 1'

These paintings on canvas read as deliberately constructed compositions that demonstrate a balance between the elements and principles of design through pattern, color, gesture, density, and line—coexisting without one overpowering the other. This balance is about achieving control rather than experimentation.

My intention was to create a consistent body of work that demonstrated rigorous studio practice to then be upload to my graduate school application. After being accepted, the paintings fulfilled their purpose. Continuing these constructed works would only turn a strategic strength into repetition and an exercise in proving competence.

Moving on to a whole new body of work reflects an awareness that art school is not only about proving competence, but about redefining the questions you ask of your work—recognizing that the thinking or message behind the work can be more transformative than the work itself.
